Pri tuljavah za izmenični tok je tok v fazi naraščanja precej višji, kot v fazi zadrževanja. Zato jih ni dovoljeno uporabljati brez magnetnega jedra, saj v tem primeru obstaja nevarnost pregrevanja in lahko tuljava pregori. Podoben učinek nastopi, ko delujejo ventili z magneti na izmenični tok z zelo visoko vklopno frekvenco (vklop/izklop). Pri tem so tuljave pogosto v območju visokih tokov in se lahko prav tako pregrejejo. V takšnih primerih uporabe je priporočljiva uporaba tuljav RC z usmernikom na vtiču.
Pri tuljavah z enosmernim tokom lahko med izklopom pride do zelo visokih napetostnih konic. Zato priporočamo uporabo vtičev z zaščitnim vezjem za te tuljave.
